Service Heating Ssystem prior to September 15th. To avoid any unforeseen problems in heating season.

Garbage Smells.

I have visited Aston (Mews?) and checked out their garbage area’s in both buildings they no longer use their chutes, I spoke with a couple of people that live there and there does not seem to b any problem with delivering their garbage directly to the bin.  Maybe we should revisit this idea.

Susi tells me that when garbage comes down the chute in a Safeway type bags it many times rips open by the time it reaches the bin.  Personally I have stopped using the chute and bring my garbage down to the bin.

Cleaning of Domestic water Drainage pipes 3 – 4 “  now about  1” , Note: garage ceilings are covered, cleanouts not visible, keeping area clean while working is an issue.

Susie 8900 Laundry Room flood problem, drain is higher than floor.

July 12th meeting – no action taken

Update July 19th from Susi

Hello,

The Roto Rooter episode!!

There was a blockage in the drain (Door knob) but it was there for the sole purpose of keeping the water from coming up through the drain and flooding the laundry room!!!  He snaked it twice and no other line blockage.  Bottom line.....the current  1 1/2 in. drain pipe should be min. 4in. to accomodate the 6 machines. Choices?  Change to larger diameter drains...or leave drain as is and it only floods the store room....or try front loaders again.....or bigger better signs!!!

Susi

General Note. It would be really helpful if we had the plumbing drawings for the laundry room connections.  I requested several weeks ago that all available drawings be returned to the office in 8900,  In additional Dave is looking into getting a complete new set.

Maple tree outside front door 8640 needs to be removed.  Too close to building  Wouter DeVires will remove in September  if we approve) no cost to us.

Jackie thought she might like to take this tree to her property off site, after looking at it she decided not to but thought the tree should remain where it is.

Please note the following:

I strongly disagree that this tree remain where it is or even on our property, to leave this tree where it is to condemn it to a miserable life. This tree is improperly planted and needs to be removed.

Tree Placement on Home Grounds

Christopher J. Starbuck
Department of Horticulture

Functions of trees

Shade

Trees are most frequently planted for shade. The most important shade tree on home grounds is usually located near the southwest corner of the house. If placed properly, it will shade the house during the latter part of the afternoon in summer. Trees provide better shade than artificial structures. Air passing through the branches is cooled by transpiration from the leaves.

Distance
Depending on the mature size of the tree, the distance it is set from the house will control the amount of shade given in a certain area. A tree 50 feet high with a 30-foot spread will cast a shadow equal to the tree height at 3 to 4 p.m. in midsummer. But in winter, the shadow at the same time of day will be 120 feet long. To get the most useful shade on the house at a practical distance, place the tree 15 to 20 feet from the house. Small trees may be planted closer than 15 feet, but large trees should be planted 20 feet or more away from the house.

Location
If the house faces south, or southeast, maximum shade on the front will come from a tree that is placed to the southwest, or left front. If the house faces southwest, a tree for maximum shade would have to be placed centrally and south of the house (Figure 1). Make a diagram of your house and sketch trees with their shade patterns to determine the best locations.
